FAQs
Where are you located?
Due to COVID-19, I am currently only offering teletherapy appointments. Teletherapy appointments are conducted using a HIPAA secure video conferencing system to obtain services from the comfort of your own home.
What should I expect during our first session?
During our first few sessions, I will spend time getting to know you and learn about what brought you into therapy. With the goal of developing a safe environment that can foster trust, I strive to approach each patient as a unique individual and to understand how your various identities intersect to impact your life. Meeting each client where they are, we will work together to help you move toward your values and achieve your goals.
What is a health psychologist?
Health psychology is the study of how biological, social, and psychological factors interact to influence health and illness. As a health psychologist, I work with individuals to understand the bidirectional relationship between physical and mental health and to help them cope with the resulting challenges, often of a chronic nature. In addition to working with individuals with chronic illness, I help clients work toward health behavior change. Specifically, I utilize various behavioral interventions to help individuals improve their sleep, quit smoking, lose weight and manage chronic pain.
What is your treatment orientation?
My approach to treatment is integrative. Utilizing the various treatments in which I have been trained (i.e., cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and more), I create an individualized approach tailored to meet the needs of each client. More specifically, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is goal-oriented and solution-focused, whereas Psychodynamic psychotherapy offers the opportunity to reflect on our past experiences in order to better understand and appreciate who we are today. Through my clinical experience, I have found that examining and uncovering the past can be used effectively to better understand the present and help facilitate change.
